Newport Driving School, CALIFORNIA INSTRUCTOR AND OPERATOR LICENSE RENEWAL

California Instructor and Operator License Renewal

Each seminar course provides 6 hours of continued education. You must complete all three courses to satisfy the DMV’s 18-hour requirement for license renewal. Ensure you do not register for the same seminar twice, as you are only allowed to take one course per day.

You may take the classes in any order, as long as you complete all three. Upon finishing each seminar, you will be able to email or print your completion certificate. You will need to submit all three completion certificates to the DMV along with your renewal documents to meet this requirement.

According to California Vehicle Code Section 11105, Paragraph 2 of Subdivision B, an instructor or operator must satisfactorily complete an examination as provided in Section 11102.5 at least once every three years after the initial issuance of a license certificate. Instead of an examination for license renewal, the department may accept evidence of continuing professional education (18 hours). Professional education, as defined in this subdivision, includes satisfactory completion of courses related to traffic safety, teaching techniques, driver instruction, or participation in professional seminars approved by the department.
