The California law states that certain relationships between individuals create situations where one party is vicariously liable for the actions of others. This can be applied to parents of minors who are at fault in a car accident, and also to employers whose employee is driving a vehicle to perform a work duty for his/her employer; the legal doctrine of respondeat superior makes an employer responsible for the actions of an employee, if he/she is involved in an accident where the employee is at fault. However, employers are not responsible for the negligent actions of the employee if this individual is not acting within the scope and course of their employment. This rule applies to both private business and public agencies.
